Frequently Unasked Questions

You have likely read many of my blogs, become a subscriber or follower, read my “About Asher” page, or even be related to me (Poor thing). It’s unlikely you really know me well, because I am somewhat of an enigma.

If you haven’t read one of my most popular blogs, 30 Things I Want To Do Before I Die, that would be a really great start in decoding who I am.

There’s no rhyme or reason or purpose with this blog. It’s just an entertaining and intimate portrait of someone who has survived insurmountable odds in life, including, but not exclusively, mental illness.

Reason for writing a blog…

Writing was a ridiculous idea my dad conceived for me to cope with a debilitating mental illness I have had all my life. Depression, in all truthfulness, can’t quite be treated with pills and shrinks. Plus, writing is quite economic!

What’s with this name of yours?

My aunt’s last name and my last name inspired me to create “Asher”.

Why do you have a lot of tree pictures/backgrounds?

I get asked this a lot, believe it or not. I was raised in the suburbs of Seattle, Washington State. I LOVED the trees, the mountains, the air (well, maybe not the air because I was allergic to that too. This explains why I have an itchy man with eczema above), and everything about the area.  My ex-spouse and I loved to go to New Mexico, where parts of it is like WA State, but drier and warmer. It was those times, in WA State as well as in NM, that I was the happiest ever. My depression, just for one minute moment didn’t seem to exist! Pictures of lots of trees take me back to that time…

Favorites books/movies…

I would definitely have to say that anything from Stephen King and Edgar Allen Poe rocks. You can usually find me buried in one of their books or one similiar to them. I have a morbid fascination for all that is weird, dark, funny, irreverent, and anything most people seem to have an adversity towards. Shock value is always a plus! I spend a lot of time reading online forensic/science journals. I also really loved “The Graduate” despite the fact that it doesn’t have any of my favorite actors or actresses in it. I do love Simon and Garfunkel, the soundtrack to the movie, which leads me to the next question…

What the hell do you listen to?

I actually have a link to my music queue…it’s on the sidebar of the main page. Anything with a long-haired hippie head banging to a screeching guitar riff has my vote! Some people say the 70′s and 80′s musicians were a bunch of hippies-like yours truly. However, people who listen to 15 year olds with a mop haircut singing the same 7 words over and over (like Justin Beiber orHannah Montana, and Lady Gaga–who is slightly interesting) don’t have a right to judge me.

What would you have been if anything was possible?

I wanted to be a homicide detective or forensic scientist. I love crime mysteries, forensics, science in general, and helping people-particularly in getting them justice. I ended up having too many kids, not enough money, and didn’t live in a big enough town to pursue these career goals.

What’s the weirdest thing about you?

I associate a song with anyone I meet. In other words, depending on your personality and appearance, a song automatically pops up in my mind. I am a music fanatic. I wouldn’t necessarily call this weird though. What’s even weirder is that all of my kids have a birthmark-two have the same one, even though they are not all full-blooded siblings. My second eldest was born with the second toe missing from both of her feet too. My youngest child has a split-tongue (naturally of course!) kind of like a snake.

I love cats and pigs. Both are clean and intelligent and pottytrained, which you can’t say about a lot of people. Pigs don’t get fleas or ticks. Cats don’t hump your leg or sofa and walk around with their wang out. I don’t tolerate this from humans, so why the hell do I want to feed and care for an animal who does that?

  17. Hello,
my name is Peggy and I am a Birthday party Director.
I noticed you have some blog posts about party planning. I enjoyed your blog and will visit again.

  18. I “think” I know the answer to your problem. there isn’t a way to “opt in” or “opt out” of two or three columns in “Structure”. That I do know for sure. I believe the way you get your three columns (the way I did it at least), is to:
    1) go to Widgets
    2) on widgets you will see a pull-down menu on the right side where you can drag your widgets to where ever you want them to appear on your blog site.
    3) Do you see “left column” in the list of pull down menus? Putting widgets there will give you a third column. Without putting anything there, you just have a two column.
    4) The reason why you may have overlooked that detail is because the “right column” is more pronounced.
    5) If you want to put anything in the top right portion of your blog site (only goes on home page, not other pages) where I have my Maxine saying about Satan and my coffin…put widgets in the “homepage top right” area. You can put as many as you want.
    6) if you are trying to figure out what the hell goes in the big blob next to that spot (where I have my talking coffin) like I wondered, the answer is simple. It’s the “featured image” for every post you do.

    7) on every post at the very bottom right corner of the screen, when editing or creating a post, you will see “featured image” click on “upload” and put your image there. Now that mystery blob on the very top of your home page has it’s image!
    8) any time you download an image, you will be asked if you want to make it a featured image”. You can go that route too.
